Improve heat transfer by cleaning the tip after each soldering joint; this is a very effective cleaning method.
Leave a thin layer of solder on the tip to prevent oxidation between cleaning and rinsing. It's recommended to keep the sponge moist with distilled water while working to prevent tip wear.
